Designers Yves Raschle (b. 1974) and Thomas Wüthrich (b. 1975), who both studied at the Schule für Gestaltung Basel, founded INCHfurniture in 2004. For their furniture collection made of teak from sustainable forest management, they procured the material from and cooperated with craft enterprises in Indonesia. The designers attach great importance to the careful handling of both resources and workers. One of their more recent products is the Freeshape Table, made of European woods. Each table is specially designed to fit the room where it is to be placed. The material and shape of the tabletop, made from solid wood boards, respond to the room’s floorplan, lighting conditions, and lines of sight, but also take into account the intended uses. Both smaller and larger groups quickly and intuitively find their place at the table.
