After training as a mechanic, Michel Péclard (1911–1996) worked as a designer, graphic designer, and sculptor. The Péclard Stool was his only furniture design. Péclard was friends with the Swiss artists Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle. Although he was not a member of the Swiss Werkbund (SWB), he must have followed the debate initiated by Max Bill on the principles of Gute Form. His well-proportioned, lightweight, stackable stool, organically formed like a three-petaled flower, received the Swiss Werkbund award for Gute Form in 1956. It is still made today of three identical molded plywood parts with double-sided veneer. The Péclard Stool is available in black, natural wood, or in various colors. Admired for its sculptural quality, it is often used in exhibitions, such as This is modern at the 14th Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2014, curated by the German Werkbund.
