Anyone growing up in Switzerland is familiar with the storybook classics by Alois Carigiet (1902–1985). The artist also produced some eye-catching tourism posters in his signature sketchy graphic style. In 1953, he advertised restorative holidays in Switzerland in a poster that was printed in all four national languages. A woman reclining in a deck chair with an open book on her lap is emblematic of the idea of rest and relaxation. The red of the lounger and parasol frame an idealized Swiss landscape.
