For over thirty years, Wolfgang Weingart (b. 1941) worked as an advisor and designer for the Typografische Monatsblätter. For the issues published in 1972 and 1973, he conceived and designed fourteen covers as provocative object lessons for typographers and apprentices. He calls them “learning covers,” because the cited theses and doctrines by well-known theorists and designers should stimulate readers—thanks to Weingart’s bold visualizations—to do some critical thinking.
