The design of word marks, brandmarks, or overall visual identities is one of the most demanding tasks in visual communication. It requires knowledge of the company or institution to be represented and the ability to translate its philosophy into a distinctive and striking form that works in various formats and media, is instantly recognizable, and will be remembered. Josef Müller-Brockmann (1914–1996) was a specialist in this field.
