After earning a degree at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich, Sonnhild Kestler (b. 1963) founded the label S.K. Hand-Druck. In her studio, she screen prints silk and cotton scarves in up to twenty colors per design. Inspired by Eastern European folklore, religious cult images from Southeast Asia, and children’s books, the textile designer “samples” individual image elements in a number of variations until she achieves the desired effect. Many decisions are made directly at the printing table. In 2010, the Swiss Confederation awarded her the Grand Prix Design.
